Indian cricket team’s star left-handed batsman Shikhar Dhawan has got himself into controversy after his recent visit to Varanasi. Varanasi district administration seems in a mood to take strict action against boatmen after Shikhar Dhawan fed birds during a boat ride in Kashi, two days ago.
On Saturday, Shikhar Dhawan shared a picture on social media in which he can be seen feeding birds. After this, Varanasi district took cognizance of the matter as soon as these photos went viral. DM of Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma is preparing to take action on the boat operator.
However, DM Sharma has made it clear that action will only be taken against the boatmen, not the tourists.
“There was some information that some boatmen are not adhering to the administration’s instructions and the tourists on their boats are feeding the birds. So, these boatmen are being identified and tourists generally are not aware of such things,” Sharma told ANI.
“However, it was made clear by the police and the administration to the boatmen that they should not allow the tourists on their boat to feed the birds. Whosoever flouted these rules will be served notice and they will be asked as to why their license should not be canceled… No action will be taken against the tourists,” he added.
DM Kaushalraj Sharma on January 11 had instructed the Municipal Corporation and Police to monitor the prohibition on feeding migratory birds in the river Ganges due to bird fue. The DM directed all BDOs and secretaries to hold meetings with shopkeepers selling meat, to keep their shops clean and to inform the police station and veterinary authorities in case of animal death.
Shikhar Dhawan appeared completely immersed in devotion during his stay in Kashi. The star Indian opener also visited Baba Vishwanath temple and also participated in the world famous Ganga Aarti.
During this time, he had also put on a mask to hide his identity. Despite this, however, some people recognized him. Shikhar Dhawan has also shared a video from his Instagram account.
